DOH Has Right Attitude on Bridge
Temporary barriers to keep oversized vehicles such as buses from using the Wheeling Suspension Bridge were installed this week by West Virginia Division of Highways crews. As can be seen from the photograph we published, they appear simple, but effective.
We wonder how long it will be before some bus or truck driver fails to notice the barrier and damages his or her vehicle. He or she should not expect any sympathy from Wheeling residents. The bridge’s weight and size restrictions are posted clearly.
We have written this previously, but it bears repeating: DOH officials and crews seem to care for the precious old bridge. They, like most Wheeling residents, appear to be determined to safeguard the span. That is precisely the right attitude. Good for the DOH!
