Eliminate Nuclear Weapons Worldwide
August 6 and 9 mark the commemorations of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Hundreds of thousands of innocent human beings, mostly women and children, died horrible deaths as a result of those nuclear bombings in 1945.
In 2011 keeping thousands of such weapons on high-alert creates unacceptable risks, huge expense, and a desire by dictators to acquire their own nuclear terror.
A strong sense of urgency is needed at this critical moment. Now, decades after the end of the Cold War, there is a growing bipartisan consensus that eliminating all nuclear weapons is the best way to secure a safe and healthy future.
Nuclear bombs must become extinct. Let’s not let these evil devices take the rest of us with them.
I’m proud to join a growing international movement (Physicians for Social Responsibility) for the elimination of all nuclear weapons worldwide.
