As a member of the board of directors for the Alzheimer’s Association, West Virginia Chapter, I wish to thank members of the community for their support, effort and generosity the past months. Throughout World Alzheimer’s Month in September and our Walks to End Alzheimer’s in September and October, our organization has been warmly embraced and aided in raising vital awareness and funding for families across the state facing the tremendous challenge of Alzheimer’s disease.
We continue with National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and National Family Caregiver Month. There are an estimated 5.4 million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease, cared for by nearly 15 million unpaid family caregivers. There are currently no means to cure, prevent or delay Alzheimer’s. They are fighting a battle but are not alone. I encourage you to join me in honoring these individuals this November in the same magnificent manner you have already shown.
