Your Church Could Be Next in Line

Editor, News-Register:

On Jan. 20 of this year, Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, confirmed that virtually all private health plans, including those of Catholic hospitals, charities, and schools, will be required to include coverage for sterilizations and contraceptives, including abortion-inducing drugs, and almost all individuals will be forced to buy that coverage as a part of their polices.

This is a direct threat to the religious liberty of Catholics, and the freedom of conscience and the social service ministry of the Catholic Church. The so-called “religious exemption” in the mandate is no exemption at all as it would require any Catholic institution (that serves non-Catholics or employs non-Catholics) to

violate Catholic belief, discontinue to provide health care, or close its doors.

There was also a mandate that chaplains could not read the letter from the Bishops from the pulpit. If they try to make Catholics do the evil, no religion will be safe. Remember, your religion could be next.
