Rockefeller did right by state with gas hearing

I appreciated the coverage in The Intelligencer of the U.S. Senate Field Hearing held by Jay Rockefeller about the Marcellus Shale industry. Representative McKinley also participated.

As pointed out in this article, Senator Rockefeller is very concerned that local residents are not getting the bulk of the jobs being created in the gas industry.

I share his concern and the most recent unemployment figures are evidence that local workers are not sharing in the billions being spent in harvesting and developing our natural resources.

The unemployment rates in Wetzel and Marshall counties, where the bulk of the natural gas activity is occurring, are among the highest in the state.

I thank Senator Rockefeller for bringing this hearing to West Virginia and standing up for our workers.
