Family Fun Day Was a Success

Editor, News-Register:

I wanted to take this time to thank everyone that attended the Ward 2 Family Fun Day. It is harkened back to the fun times I had as a child at the Madison School Fair or the BT Street Fair.

It was a great opportunity to see old friends and make new ones. I would like to send a special thank you to all those who donated goods and time to the event: Little Patriots, KFC, OVMC, United Bank, Neibergall’s Ice, Gracie Engle-Lontz, Francis Tones, Erika Lontz, Debbie Becker, Bob Becker, Evelyn Breiding, BJ Nuckles, Charles Riggs, Jim Compston, Mallory Compston, Megan Bails, Dr. Joseph Gabis, James “Smitty” Smith, Rhonda Hamilton, Owens Brown, Steve Rudzinski, Zach Wilson, Tom Burgoyne, Cathy Burgoyne, Mike Drosieko, Angela Landmeyer, David Watkins, Jordan Umbach and the City of Wheeling for the use of Jensens Park. I would like to also thank Mayor Andy McKenzie and his family for stopping by.

A special thank you goes out to my mom, Karen Wilkinson, who was a major source for much of the work and inspiration for this event. If everyone had a parent like her I would have been running against even more candidates in Ward 2. Thank you, Mom, I wouldn’t be the man I am without your influence on the boy I once was and sometimes still am to you!

I like the idea of this being some sort of annual event in Ward 2. Hopefully next year we can even get more involvement from the local community and beat the 300 mark. The highlights of the event for me was the opportunity to talk to those in attendance about plans for a revitalization project for Jensens Park, talk about crime related activity and solutions for it and parental involvement in the community. Jordan Umbach from Washington, PA, came and serenaded the crowd with his original music and was for sure a crowd pleaser! The show was definitely stolen though by several Island residents with their original raps. For those in attendance it was something to see!

More importantly my goal was achieved. The kids in Ward 2 had a great day and despite some clouds in the morning, the big guy smiled and held the rain off till 6:01 p.m., after everything was successfully unloaded and put away. Thank you once again for making this event a great success!
