Door-to-Door Mail Delivery in Jeopardy

Editor, News-Register:

Most citizens are not aware that legislation has been introduced in Congress that if passed, could possibly end the U.S. Postal Service’s practice of delivering mail door to door. The plan calls for the installation of neighborhood cluster boxes which you may have to pay for. This is where the Postal carriers would deposit mail for several blocks at a central location – whereas you might have to walk to in the cold, rain and snow with a key to get your mail. If the items are too large for the receptacle, you will be given a notice to pick the item up at the closest Post Office which might be 5 or 10 miles away.

If this is allowed to happen, there will be no going back. So if you don’t like this idea, you might want to call or write your U.S. representatives and let them know that you want them to protect door to door delivery. You can reach U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller at (304) 347-5372 or at 405 Capital St.- Suite 508. Charleston.WV 25301-1749. U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin can be reached at (304) 342-5855 or at 300 Virginia St East.
