Thanks for Making Memorial a Reality

Editor, News-Register:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many individuals, businesses and volunteers throughout Brooke County who contributed to making the Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation become a reality.

On Veterans Day Nov. 11, over 250 individuals from Brooke County and beyond participated in the memorial’s dedication. I would like to thank those who came out on a beautiful day to celebrate not only the dedication of the memorial, but also to honor all our veterans who so bravely serve our country.

The memorial certainly was a long time in coming, but thanks to a few of strong willed, dedicated individuals that simply never gave up, the memorial stands at Brooke Hills Park in Wellsburg as both a beautiful monument, and eternal recognition of those men and women from Brooke County who served, gave their lives and were prisoners of war. If you haven’t taken the time to visit the memorial site, I strongly recommend that you do so. I believe you will he impressed with the results. The memorial is also lit at night and the setting is simply magnificent.

There are so many people to thank both within the Foundation membership and community donors and volunteers; I will not attempt to do so. However, I will be forever grateful for the help and support I received from our officers, board of directors and the various committee members who worked so hard over the past eight years to bring this project to reality. I would also be remiss if I did not thank Warren Scott for his continued coverage of the Foundation. Warren’s continued coverage kept the project in the minds of Brooke County residents and contributed immensely in our efforts to raise the funding for the project.

In closing I would like to remind everyone that the Foundation is still selling memorial pavers and taking donations for the long term maintenance of the memorial site. If anyone is interested in purchasing a memorial paver or making a donation, please contact me at 304-670-2224. Again, thank you Brooke County for stepping up in honoring our brave men and women who serve.
