Let’s Control People, Not Their Firearms

Editor, News-Register:

The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000. Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000. Accidental deaths per physician average 0.171.

Now think about this: The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80 million. The number of accidental gun deaths per year in all age groups is 1,500. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.0000188.

Statistics courtesy of the FBI.

So statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Fact: Not everyone has a gun, but everyone has at least one doctor. This means you are over 9,000 times more likely to be killed by a doctor as by a gun owner!

This is a recent email sent to me. While it is factual, I must admit the last few lines seem a bit radical. But not as radical as anti-gun groups and even government officials wanting a ban on all guns in America. That would leave only the criminals with guns.

Guns do not kill people. People with guns kill people. Maybe instead of more gun control, we need more people control.
