Let’s Make Success Look More Positive

Editor, News-Register:

As I start this letter I wonder if I will see any positive results from issuing some of my concerns. Will I be writing the letter again?

I want to bring attention to the litter that is accumulating all around us. This time of the year really exposes its ugliness. I know it doesn’t bother a lot of folks and they may even contribute to it. I also know many people who share my concerns. The fact that we have the gas boom is another big factor. Some of these workers have no respect for us or our land. There is more and more trash being thrown along our roadways and countryside. We see bottles, cans and paper everywhere.

Many people think we just have to live with these conditions along with everything else that comes along with “success.” I by no means put all the blame on the drilling.

There was a time when I would take trash bags and pick up litter on my way to and from town – I’m too old to do that now and even if I could I wouldn’t be able to make much of an impact.

We should all be embarrassed of our lack of self-respect. I was talking to someone who years ago moved here from California. He remembers when he considered the area “pristine.” People are no longer moving here for peace, quiet and beauty. Our telephone books are getting smaller, not bigger.

I think we should all work together to make success look more positive.
