On April 13, 2008 you published my letter to the editor which read as follows:
“Editor, Wheeling News-Register: Rather than adopting Home Rule at this time, why not propose a bill to the Legislature authorizing municipalities to deal with vacant buildings, rundown properties and related matters, thereby solving Wheeling’s immediate problem and at the same time avoiding the imposition of new taxes by a future city council, a virtual certainty under Home Rule?”
Now, some five years later, the first virtual certainty has arrived in the form of increased sales tax. It’s virtually certain there will be more.
