Making a Difference In Your Community
Once again the Mary H. Weir Public Library will be hosting a Celebration for Literacy Month and the Annual GED Graduation on Tuesday, Sept. 24 beginning at 6 p.m. at the library in Weirton.
We salute all of the students and volunteers involved with the Literacy & Lifelong Learning Program of the Library. Members of the Weirton Area Literacy Council have been invaluable in offering free and confidential classes in computers, GED preparation, math, English as a Second Language, U.S. Citizenship, and reading.
Volunteers from Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Tyler, Pleasants, Doddridge, Ritchie, Wood, and Wirt counties as well as those throughout the network of Literacy West Virginia programs work tirelessly to assist adults and older teens not only during September Literacy Month, but also throughout the year.
If you would like to make a difference in your community or if you would like more information, you can call Coordinator Pamela Makricosta at the Library at 304-797-8510. To find a program near you, you can also call 800-642-2670! Learning is for a lifetime!
