Regatta a Blessing For Wheeling, Easter Seals

To the citizens of Wheeling:

My name is Jay Marshall, and I am from Baton Rouge, La. It has been my extreme pleasure to visit your beautiful city every year on Labor Day weekend since 2007. Starting in 2006, the family of Dan and Debbie Joseph have hosted the Vintage Raceboat Regatta for the people of Wheeling at no charge to the general public. You really have no idea how lucky you are!!

I have toured the United States attending these events with my boat, the Tijuana Taxi, since 2008. I have been from Clayton, N.Y. to Morgan City, La. and everywhere in between. Believe me when I tell you that there is no better vintage raceboat event anywhere in this country.

Each year, the Joseph family, with the help of sponsors and dozens of volunteers, hosts this event with all profits donated to Easter Seals. People from as far away as Seattle, Wash., have attended this event as participants or spectators. I personally drive 2,500 miles round trip in order to attend. Every year 40-50 boats and their crews descend upon Wheeling, spending hundreds of dollars in your restaurants, hotels, and stores, and we love it. So far, Easter Seals has received over $35,000 from this event, helping those children stricken by pain and disease. As usual, the Josephs have asked for nothing in return, only volunteer help and sponsors’ donations to help in the cause.

I just wanted to let the people of Wheeling know what a gem they have in the Joseph family, and the event they host every Labor Day to raise money for Easter Seals. Wheeling is indeed extremely blessed.
