Just ‘Drop in Bucket’ For Barnesville
Regarding the Jan. 15, article “Barnesville Inks Million Dollar Agreement” (in the Wheeling News-Register): I am happy for the residents of Barnesville. They have been guaranteed to have no droughts or water shortage problems for at least the next five years. In particular this applies to the land area that feeds water to the Slope Creek Reservoir used by Barnesville. This guarantee was declared by the Barnesville City Council when they made an agreement with Antero Resources, to sell them 1.5 million gallons of water per day for the next five years.
With 231 cubic inches of water per gallon, and a sample house trailer size of 12′ wide, 8′ high, and 40′ long: we can get an appreciation for what 2.74 billion gallons (1.5 million gallons daily for five years) represents. It would be 95,523 such house trailers completely full of water. Just a drop in the bucket, as they say.
