Battling Opioid Abuse Effectively
Editor, News-Register:
West Virginia is definitely in a financial dilemma, Gov. Justice!
Regulations on top of regulations obscure common sense approaches to sound judgment, not bureaucratic rhetoric.
Case in point: Former Cabinet Secretary Bowling came up with the brilliant idea that one way to curb the opioid crisis was to create another agency within an agency.
This new agency is called OHFLAC (Office of Health Facility Licensure and Certificates), which costs the West Virginia tax payer $500,000/year.
To date, only five clinics are part of this program, paying $600/year for total revenue of $3,000/year!
The purpose was to stop opioid overdosing and deaths which as we all know is not that successful.
How wasteful!
The solution: Properly fund the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substance website and they can work with the allopathic and osteopathic medical boards to improve and educate as well as prosecute physicians who are outliers with Rx Controlled Substances. It’s that simple and that inexpensive!
