Face Fact of Falling Population in W.Va.

Editor, News-Register:

Jim Justice is continuing the typical reactions of his party to a serious problem in this state. The lighting of the emergency light in the capital building is ridiculous.

Instead of facing the state’s problems, he refuses to face up to the facts and simply wants more from the falling population of this state. If the population falls, services must be reduced. You cannot continue doing the same things. That is the definition of insanity. Our country and this state are broke. If my income goes down, I reduce what I spend it on. That is Economics 101.

Yes, we cannot get the same services, and have to struggle. A lot of changes must be made, starting with the greyhound subsidy. Every dime spent must be able to show a return. If we return to prosperity, then we can spend on nice-to-have items.

Oil and gas will give a boost as it gets into production, but where is the planning to spend it wisely? How about the plan to return some of this money back to the people it effects?

I do support Ryan Ferns and his plan to eliminate the state income tax. If I live long enough, it may help me. The taxpayers of this state need help now, but the real fix is to knuckle down, get the budget balanced, and then see where we are before adding any extras.
