Nation Should Lift Lamp to Immigrants
Sen. Lindsey Graham stated, “America is an idea, not a race.” I agree with his sentiment 100 percent and, in accordance with that, I’d like to quote from a famous poem that can be found on the Statue of Liberty. Emma Lazarus’ poem, “The New Colossus,” is as timely today as it was when published:
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to be free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
