Don’t Blame Video Games for Violence

Editor, News-Register:

The Trump administration has made the choice to again suggest that somehow video games are causing violence. I have one tiny problem with the White House saying this: There’s no reason to believe it.

No major studies link violence to gaming; crime doesn’t go up as video game sales go up. Except for fear soaked rhetoric, there’s little substance to the video game panic.

I understand why people want to find an easy scapegoat for violet crime. But video games aren’t the problem. What matters isn’t what we feel might be true, but what serious thinking and study suggests is actually going on.
