Obama Favorite Backs Tennant

One wonders how Natalie Tennant could have put herself in a worse position.

Her support for President Barack Obama in 2008, then again in 2012 – after he began his war on coal and affordable electricity – was enough to scuttle her hopes of winning a U.S. Senate seat from West Virginia.

Now Tennant finds one of her biggest supporters, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is being viewed as the Obama clone some Democrats want to put in the White House.

U.S. Rep. Shelley Capito, R-W.Va., will win the Senate seat in November. The only question is how handily she will send Tennant back to the secretary of state’s office.

The outlook gets worse and worse for Tennant – and not just because of Obama’s war on coal. In addition, many West Virginians are growing increasingly angry about Obamacare. Those who trustingly signed up for it are beginning to hear their health insurance premiums are likely to go up dramatically.

Then there’s the “farm vote” which, in West Virginia, includes lots of people who don’t actually till the land. One of their heroines is Lois Alt, the Hardy County poultry farmer who stood up to the Environmental Protection Agency when it tried to ruin her.

Oh, and did we mention Medicare?

Tennant has insisted Capito wants to destroy the program that provides health care for many Mountain State senior citizens.

In reality, Medicare has been savaged by – you guessed it – Obama and liberals in Congress.

Just a few days ago, UnitedHealth Group, the largest provider of supplemental Medicare Advantage insurance in the U.S., revealed the Obamacare law has spurred it to cut thousands of doctors out of its network approved for participation in the program. That is as a result of Obamacare cuts in reimbursements for Medicare Advantage health care providers.

Another provision in Obamacare allows the Medicare program to cut reimbursements for home health care. Now, while the president has granted hundreds of breaks from Obamacare requirements, he has not done so in this case. The maximum in cuts allowable will be made to the home health care program.

In total, Obamacare will result in more than $700 billion in cuts to Medicare.

Capito voted against Obamacare. She wants to scrap the whole thing.

On Monday, Tennant has a campaign event scheduled in the Eastern Panhandle. Warren, who already has contributed $10,000 to the Tennant campaign, is to be the guest of honor.

Events during the past few days have made it clear why a senator from Massachusetts would be so interested in electing a Democrat from West Virginia to the Senate.

As I’ve pointed out, Warren is a flaming liberal in populist clothing. She wants more gun control. She loves Obamacare. She thinks the war on coal and affordable electricity is a great idea.

Maybe that’s why Obama likes her.

Several reliable journalists have reported that Obama wants Warren, not former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, to be the Democrats’ nominee for president in 2016. Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s top political adviser, reportedly has met with Warren to inform her of White House support.

A key reason for that is Obama’s belief Warren will continue pursuing his policies.

Now, Hillary Clinton is far from a conservative. If anything, she may be more liberal than her husband, ex-President Bill Clinton.

It says something that she is not far enough to the left for Obama, however.

So, on Monday, Tennant will, in effect, be trying to convince West Virginians they should vote for her because Obama’s favorite for president, Elizabeth Warren, likes her.

Lots of luck with that.

About all Tennant needs now to put the seal on a crushing defeat is for Senate Majority Leader Harry?Reid, Obama’s faithful servant on Capitol Hill, to support her.

Oh, wait. Reid’s leadership PAC already has given $10,000 to Tennant.
