Your Vote Counts
Hancock County residents have new evidence of the importance of getting to the polling place on Election Day.
There, on the night of Nov. 6, it appeared incumbent county Commissioner Jeff Davis had been unseated by challenger Tommy Ogden, by just eight votes.
A more formal count, including 82 provisional ballots, kept Davis in the seat, but only by 10 votes. The final margin was 5,064-5,054 in his favor.
A recount is planned. However, the current numbers mean that, had just 11 of Davis’ supporters stayed home instead of voting on Election Day, the result would have been different. Individual votes do count.
