Battling New Scourge
Last week, in the process of arresting three people, the Belmont County Sheriff’s Department made the largest seizure of methamphetamines in county history. A total of 14 grams of the illegal drug was found.
Depending on the amount taken, that is enough for between 560 and 1,400 individual doses.
Meth-related arrests have been on the upswing for several months in our area. The drug’s effects differ substantially from those of opiates, which have been the focus of the battle against drug abuse.
That new challenge may call for a change in some anti-drug abuse strategies. It is something policymakers in both our states should be considering.
