A Pizza with Everything -- Except the Meat
June 23, 2010 - Joselyn King
Looking to buy a pizza with everything -- minus the meat? Contact former superlobbyist Jack Abramoff, who's just been released from prison after serving about 3 1/2 years for fraud, corruption and conspiracy.
It was Abramoff's influence that led to the conviction of former U.S. Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio.
Abramoff is now making his home at a half-way house near Baltimore, and was in need of a job. The owner of Tov Pizza -- specializing in non-meat kosher pizzas -- offered him an opportunity, and it could lead to a marketing position there.
Good for Jack. It sounds like a nice, quiet way for him to contribute back to society without somehow seeking to capitalize on the notriety of being a well-publicized convicted felon.
There should be shame -- not fame -- associated with criminal behavior and purposely bilking the public's interest. There should be no books . . .no movies . . .no tell-all with an Oprah successor. Or maybe he does have that in the works once federal authorities allow it.
For now, he's just a regular Working Jack -- peddling kosher pizzas.
Too often jail for white collar criminals merely amounts to being alcohol rehab or a fat farm for felons on the taxpayer dime.
Perhaps jail isn't the answer for them. Maybe they should just have to live and support themselves within the public they've cheated.
