VOTE FOR KATIE O!
December 10, 2010 - Phyllis Sigal
"Katie Orlofske. Remember that name, because I'm betting you'll hear it again in the world of country music."
I wrote that in my blog April 2, 2008.
Since then, I've heard Katie sing several times, and she just keeps getting better and better. When I heard her, she was a senior at St. John's in Bellaire, just 17. She went on to study nursing, while still pursuing her music.
Now, she's got a chance to go to Nashville, and to meet with some bigwigs at Sony Music. I've been hoping that my coverage of her over the years would help to get the word out about her talent.
And now, we can all help. She has won a chance to be the grand-prize winner in a national vocal talent contest. Earlier this month, she competed in and won a contest hosted by Country Music Television and Screen Gems on behalf of the new Screen Gems film, “Country Strong,” starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw.
Talented singers from as far as New York, Rhode Island and Maryland showed off their skills, but Orlofske was the winner at the end of the competition in Cleveland. She will be competing against winners in 15 other cities. If she wins the grand prize, she will get a trip to Nashville, Tenn., to meet with Sony Record executives and also a spot on Country Music Television.
The winner of this competition will be based entirely on fan votes. Starting at noon Dec. 10, Orlofske's taped performance of the song “Country Strong” will be posted on www.countrystrong.cmt.com along with winning performances from 15 other cities.
The Ohio Valley can show its support by voting for her starting at noon today. The voting continues through Thursday, Dec. 16. Supporters can vote as many times as they wish.
So VOTE ... LOG ON and VOTE FOR KATIE!
You also can hear her Dec. 16 when she opens for Dom Liberati at River City Ale Works, 14th and Main streets, Wheeling.
