Let's talk shopping

October 8, 2011 - Heather Ziegler
I will admit up front that I am not the best shopper. For one thing, I am not into shopping like many women. I usually have a list and pretty much stick to it whether I am grocery shopping or heading to Penney's. I will admit it doesn't always work at Penney's because I know where to look for the bargains (that one shelf where the sheets are sold) for some really good deals. Found a lovely sheet set for a double bed marked down to $7.97 and grabbed them up quickly for the spare bedroom. They are wonderful! One trend I find disturbing are the sales for buy one get one half price. I don't want two ....I just want a decent price on one item. I do like the buy one, get one free deals because they usually are pretty fair. You cannot beat the English roasts at Kroger and the buy one get one free is even better. They are the most delicious roasts to put in a crock pot. And while I'm talking about Kroger, don't you just adore those new mini shopping carts? I love them. I don't have kids to put in a seat so that's not an issue (no kids allowed in the small buggies.) And the smaller buggies are not so deep that I can't reach the items like in the bigger carts. The senior set likes them because they are easier to maneuver. I do use coupons but not to the extent that the stores end up owing me money. I just don't get that whole thing of buying 20 jars of mayonaise just because you have worked the coupon system so that you get them at a real eap price. Isn't that hoarding? Another sad trend is that many of the larger department stores no longer have a credit office in the stores. Sure, you can pay your bill at any cash register, but no more face to face with the credit folks. Times they are a changing...
