Hold onto your luggage
October 23, 2007 - Heather Ziegler
A fella stopped in the newspaper building this morning and asked when the Greyhound Bus Station opened. It seems the guy was working at a plant down river, got a ride to Wheeling very early this morning to catch a bus back to his home out of state. He had several hours to wait for his bus. When he found the bus terminal was not open, he went over to Market Street and sat in the public bus shelter there to stay out of the rain. He fell asleep only to wake up and find his luggage had been stolen from his side. He was left with only the backpack on his back. It seems to me that in years past the bus station was open all night. I get to work pretty early it he morning and there often are people waiting on the sidewalk with packages and luggage. I've even seen people sleeping on the sidewalk at that early hour. It's disturbing. I don't think the bus station has enough traffic in and out of Wheeling during the overnight hours, but it seems there would be somewhere for people to go and wait.
