The local fish fry scene in the Ohio Valley generated yet another conversation in the newsroom when someone asked about the Our Lady of Seven Dollars (Dolors) fish fry. Of course, that's
when I had to correct the pronunciation of dollars to dolors. Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church can be found on Chapel Road in Triadelphia, just a stone's throw from U.S. 40. It has a great fish fry
every Friday during Lent and its menu is generous and so are the portions. There are dozens more fish fries around the valley, some catering to the various ethnic taste buds. Everyone seems to
have their favorites. As for those who want to know, dolors means sorrows. And there are seven sorrows that Our Lady suffered during her lifetime on earth as the Mother of Jesus. The sorrows are:
The prophecy of Simeon. (St. Luke 2: 34, 35)
The flight into Egypt. (St. Matthew 2:13-14)
The loss of the Child Jesus in the temple. (St. Luke 3: 43-45)
The meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way of the Cross.
The taking down of the Body of Jesus from the Cross.
The burial of Jesus.
Catholics make novenas to the Blessed Virgin, recalling the sorrows and praying the rosary.
