March 31, 2014 - Heather Ziegler
Tuesday may be April Fool's Day but Sunday's weather was sure a cruel joke played on us all. When I left work shortly after midnight Saturday, the rain had turned to a heavy, wet snow. It was coming down so hard it was as if it was in 3-D hitting the windshield. And it was much colder than when I started my day's work. Earlier in the day a light sweater was all that was required although it was quite windy. Then on Sunday morning, I needed a winter coat. While I hated the idea of snow so close to April, it was brief. It was also quite beautiful and picturesque. (see photo) Then on Monday, the sun came out, the sky turned blue and there were people out and about everywhere! The downtown lunch crowd blossomed from a few brave souls in recent weeks to plenty of them eating lunch or soaking up the noon sun at Heritage Port. Walkers were back on the trail or making a loop around the downtown business district (it's still called that, isn't it?) It's funny how a few degrees upward and a lot of sunshine can change us into better human beings. Don't put away the heavy coats just yet, the nights are bound to be chilly. I predict shorts and capris will be spotted by Tuesday. however. Welcome, spring, welcome.
