Bored Yet?

July 4, 2014 - Phyllis Sigal
It's just about a month until tickets go on sale for the 2014-15 Broadway at the Capitol series, but season ticket holders can claim their seats now!

I'm happy to see that five Broadway musicals are back on the bill this season; last season, I considered a couple of the shows concerts rather than Broadway musicals.

The curtain will go up on "Camelot" Dec. 7, "Million Dollar Quartet" on Jan. 20, "Sister Act" on Feb. 15, "Flashdance" on March 5 and a special season option, "Beauty and the Beast" April 27.

Patrons can purchase a four-show package, or add "Beauty and the Beast" for a five-show season.

While we have a few months to go before enjoying Broadway at the Capitol, plenty of series and activities are going on this summer in the Ohio Valley.

There are Toe Tappin' Tuesdays at Warwood's Garden Park, Toe Tappin' Tuesdays Too at the Wheeling Park Amphitheater, Music on the Lawn concerts on Tuesdays in St. Clairsville, Waterfront Wednesdays at Wheeling's Heritage Port, Thursday artists series at Oglebay's Anne Kuchinka Amphitheatre, Riverfront Movie Nights on Fridays, Sunday night concerts at the Anne Kuchinka Amphitheatre and the Summertime Blues series happening on Tuesdays in July at River City.

If that's not enough, there are community theater productions, including the new Shakespeare in the Park at Oglebay; programs for children and adults at libraries throughout the valley; art exhibits; ice cream socials and flower shows; science demonstrations and workshops at various locations; stargazing and nature programs; festivals — Italian, blues, beer, wine and jazz; and museums and parks.

Once we've exhausted all of those options, we can head out of town to the Whiskey Rebellion Festival July 10-12 in Washington, Pa., or to Pittsburgh, where there's always tons going on in the Cultural District.

Did I hear someone say, "I'm bored"?

I didn't think so.
