You Can Bank on Alexander's on 7th

November 5, 2007 - Phyllis Sigal
I finally got to confirm what I had heard about Alexander's on Seventh, a great little restaurant in Moundsville.

I had heard that it was good! And, indeed, it is. The prices are quite reasonable, as well. The service is great and the decor beautiful. Catherine, our server, was really fun and made our dining experience all that much better.

I decided to check it out the night of the Wheeling Symphony concert last month. And, if fact, I've already got my reservations for this Friday, just before the symphony's second masterworks concert at the John Marshall Center for Performing Arts.

You might miss it if you didn't know it was there, on the corner of W.Va. 2 and Seventh Avenue. If you're traveling south on W.Va. 2, turn left and there it is, in an old bank building that's been transformed into a lovely eatery. Inside, clues still remain that it was a bank. I think the huge vault behind the bar pretty much gives it away.

Alexander's on Seventh is only open for dinner on Fridays. It is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Fridays. Weekends and evenings (except for Friday) are reserved for catering jobs, which keeps them quite busy, according to our waitress. When Brad Paisley was in town last month filming his video, Alexander's was there to feed him and friends.

My tastebuds were quiite pleased with the pasta and shrimp dish I ordered. The unique aspect of this dish was that the chef used fettucini and ravioli, which were tossed in a cream sauce and topped with several large shrimp. And it was served in a beautiful bowl. My friend had pasta with salmon — the salmon was perfectly prepared, moist and tasty.

The menu changes from week to week, but there are always several pasta selections, usually a steak offering and a fish dish. The artichoke dip appetizer sounded really good as did the desserts, but since we are (always) watching our girlish figures, we passed on those. The house salad was quite good, especially with the addition of blue cheese crumbles. The wine was a bargain at $3 for a large pour of house red or white.

Check it out! Call 304-845-0582 for your reservations. Maybe I'll see you there Friday before the concert!
