Send in the Marines

February 11, 2008 - Heather Ziegler
I don't know about you, but if the U.S. Marine Corps wanted to send 200 Marines to Wheeling to do some hands-on training, I'd bake cookies for them and put up a WELCOME sign. Shame on the mayor of Toledo who told the Marines to get out of his town, that their presence was making his residents uneasy. UNEASY? What's wrong with him? If there were 200 Marines running around the streets of Wheeling, I would think we would hold a parade, kind of like on Andy Griffith when the gold truck was supposed to pass through the town. We could line the streets and wave the American flag and let the Marines know they are welcome in our backyard anytime they want to visit. And I would think the criminal element around town would slink back into the crevices from which it crawled. Wheeling police could have four men to a cruiser with the added presence of the military. I wish we had a military base here. We certainly have enough empty buildings they could use.
