Back in the saddle

December 22, 2008 - Heather Ziegler
I had a nice week off just in time to finish up the holiday stuff. I'm ready. How about you? A week ago Monday I was at the Ohio Valley Mall in St. Clairsville. I know it was a Monday morning but the place was nearly empty. I counted 10 people as I walked from one end of the mall to the other. Most of those people were mall walkers who just were there for the exercise. I had forgotten how many businesses were gone from the facility but I have to tell you I love a lot of the stores still there. I would not know what to do without Kmart and I love CJ Banks. Of course, Sears and Macy's anchor the place and keep it from imploding. Elder Beerman appears to be hanging in there and so many of the smaller shops are keeping up. I did notice that stock was down in many of the stores and I hope that is a good sign and means they have been selling a lot of merchandise. I still love the mall and like the idea of being out of the weather. The Highlands also has a place on my shopping list but this year it was a 50-50 proposition for holiday shopping between The Highlands and the Ohio Valley Mall. I also cheated a little and went to Washington, Pa. where there is no tax on clothing or food.
