A week in review

April 24, 2009 - Heather Ziegler

This week has been a mishmash of good and bad news. As for the homework issue, I don't buy it. I do believe some teachers give homework without thought of others doing the same, and some give homework just for busy work. High school kids who have to be on a school bus at 6:30 a.m. should not have to be up until midnight completing work that should have been done in the classroom. However, saying homework should be optional is not being very realistic. I still have "homework." It's just part of the job. If we just raise clock watchers with no thoughts of going the extra mile occasionally, we will reap what we sow. It's complicated to say the least. If you want a break from the depressing news, pile the kids in the car and check out the tulips at Oglebay before they are gone. They are simply spectacular.
