We're 'good and curious' about our favorite little monkey's live show!

February 2, 2010 - Betsy Bethel
"George was a good little monkey, and always very curious."

That sentence appears at the beginning of every Curious George book by Margaret and H.A. Rey, and I love the word choice. It's not he was good BUT curious, implying curiosity is a bad thing. He was good AND curious.

We love Curious George at our house — the books and the TV series. I have to say: My daughter and I are extremely put out that since West Virginia PBS went digital, we do not get George or the other kids' shows in the mornings. If anyone knows how we can fix this travesty, please let me know!

I miss George's antics — which are always done with the best of intentions. Like when he wanted to help his apartment building win the recycling contest, so he emptied all the jars and cans in his fridge and cupboards, and stole everyone's newspapers before they could read them in the morning! Silly George!

George's curiosity is healthy and natural. His ideas are creative and fun. His imagination is boundless. Like the theme song says: "You'll never be bored/If you ask yourself, what is this?/Like curious, like curious, like Curious George."

George is really your average preschooler, except, of course, he's a monkey. But even though he only uses monkey language and gestures, he always gets his points across. And his big buddy, the Man in the Yellow Hat, is always understanding and helpful. The other characters in the show are colorful — like Chef Pisghetti and his wife, Netti — and diverse — like Professor Wiseman, Yellow Hat's dark-skinned, bespectacled, female boss at the museum. I love the uptight dachshund, Hundley, who runs the apartment building lobby, alongside the friendly Doorman, with an iron paw.

We love and miss George, which is why we're so excited he's coming to Wheeling! We're "good and curious" about Curious George Live!, tickets for which went on sale yesterday! The show plot revolves around George helping Chef Pisghetti save his restaurant by winning The Golden Meatball Contest in Rome. We can't wait to see what kind of fun and surprises are in store!

Curious George will swing into WesBanco Arena on Tuesday, March 16 and Wednesday, March 17. The Tuesday show is at 7 p.m. The Wednesday shows are 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

TIckets are reasonably priced at $12 and $18, plus facility fees. For tickets, call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. For information, visit www.curiousgeorgelive.com.
