Paden City Nine Is Back in Full Force
The cupboard is certainly not bare for coach Brent Croasmun as he enters his 20th season at the helm of the Paden City baseball program.
All nine starters from last season’s 11-15 squad are back in uniform for the Wildcats, who lost in the West Virginia Class A Region One, Section Two final in 2007.
‘‘We fell short of our goal to win our sectional last season,’’ Croasmun said.
‘‘We had some injuries to our pitching staff toward the end of the season that hurt us. We have a lot of experienced players back.’’
Left-hander Ryan Thoburn (P/1B) returns to lead a strong stable of hurlers that, for the most part, is juniors.
A junior himself, Thoburn led Paden City with five victories (5-2) and posted a 6.60 earned run average. He struck out 35 batters and walked 23 en route to allowing 33 earned runs. He tossed three complete games.
The versatile Wes Cosper (P/2B/SS), another junior, is also back in the fold after posting a team-leading 3.64 ERA in 11 appearances last spring. He went 3-5 in 2007 with one save and fanned 54 batters while walking 19.
Sophomore Malakai Anderson (P/SS/2B/3B) picked up one victory last season and allowed 30 earned runs in nearly 28 innings pitched.
