Ohio County Country Fair Is Oct. 3-5
Ribeye steak sandwiches will be available from vendors at the Ohio County Country Fair on Oct. 3-5 at Oglebay Park.
If you are a fan of outdoor activities such as hog-calling, rock-throwing, and baby crawling — or just curious to see what these events are all about — you won’t want to miss this year’s Ohio County Country Fair, held from Oct. 3-5 at Oglebay Park. According to fair co-secretary Amy Lough of the West Virginia University Extension office, the festival is in its 26th year coinciding with the park’s annual Oglebay Fest celebration. And even if hog-calling isn’t your thing, chances are you’ll find something to your liking as you browse the many displays. “This is really an educational-type fair,” Lough said, noting one of last year’s most popular attractions, History Hits the Road, is returning for a second year. History Hits the Road, a program courtesy of Heritage Arts and Crafts from Jackson’s Mill 4-H Camp in Weston, W.Va., is an interactive exhibit featuring a covered wagon brimming with traditional crafts celebrating our state’s Appalachian heritage. According to Lough, visitors to the replica wagon can get involved by learning to make items like candles and paper as settlers did years ago. Examples of old-fashioned toys will be shown, as well. Lough noted the livestock tent will be back once again, with popular farm animals like horses, pigs, cows, goats, sheep and chickens on display.
