Workplace Safety Vital
Editor, News-Register:
April 28 marked the 20th observance of Worker Memorial Day by the West Virginia AFL-CIO and, unfortunately, 47 workers were remembered and recognized on that day that were killed on the job in our state during 2007.
Brooke, Hancock and Ohio County working families remember 2006 all too clearly; during that year 79 workers were killed, 12 of whom died unnecessarily at the Sago Mine.
Safety in the workplace must be a top priority for everyone, we should all want and expect to return home following our day at work to be greeted by loved ones without injury or illness due to our work.
The West Virginia Legislature led the nation with passage of mine safety legislation following the Sago Mine disaster and your representative in the House of Delegates, Jack Yost was a champion for workers in that effort.
Jack Yost serves all working West Virginia families as a member of the West Virginia Legislature but his constituents who live in the 2nd House District must be very proud of his service and dedication to the health and safety of workers in the Northern Panhandle.
