‘Sisterhood’ Sequel A Tale of Friendship
Three years ago four young actresses captured the hearts of moviegoers and critics alike in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” a charming film about the bond among best friends based upon the novel of the same name by Ann Brashares. In this heartwarming movie, Carmen Lowell (America Ferrera), Tibby Tomko-Rollins (Amber Tamblyn), Bridget Vreeland (Blake Lively), and Lena Kaligaris (Alexis Bledel) realize that for the first time they will be going their separate ways for the summer preceding their senior year in high school, and so they develop a unique way of preserving their bond. One day while they are at a store trying on clothes, they come across a pair of second-hand jeans, and despite the girls’ varying sizes and shapes, the jeans fit all of them perfectly. They then make a pact that each of them will keep the jeans for a week and then send them on to one of the others. In this way they stay in touch and tell each other what happened when they were wearing the jeans. The sequel, aptly titled “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2,” picks up three years after the first film, and it has all the warmth and charisma of the original. As the film opens, we find our four heroines preparing for summer vacation from college, and once again they are all going their separate ways where each of them will confront a personal crisis.
