NR: It would be nice if the article would tell us how many vehicles are currently in the fleet. Also, where do the city police and county sheriffs departments plan to park their extra vehicles once the new development at the old King Chevrolet is complete?

why don't the cop cars last very long?at the prices they cost you should get ten years.my car is pushing 20 years old and it's been beat on by just about every family member.take just a little bit of care of them and they'll take care of you.drivers are responsible.and curb jumping isn't recommended with any dot vehicle.if the city has money for all the demolition jobs funnel some off for the chief to purchase these new cars.just take care of them.accountability.

Cars are an expensive part of moving from two to one man zones. Any sick day, vacation, training day or court means that the next zones are now larger for those one man cars, and any car in for service means there must be a lot of cars in the stable. One man, take home cars work in terms of service last years longer than a car rotating through three shifts, seven days a week. How many cars are there now? A fair question not answered by the article. Wonder what size the fleet must be to make this work? 50? More? And where do you park those cars whenever people are in the building for meetings/training/court? Another good question not answered by the article. What do we do if this doesn't work? If officers are being injured at an alarming rate? Go back? Probably not. People accepted the idea that the cops do not know what is needed on the street to meet the job, and that politicians and arm chair cop experts do know? Wonder which one was right?

Absolutely UN-necessary! Our small city already has too many police, too many vehicles - what about that monstrosity that mostly idle except for parades? Waste of money. How can the police force continue to grow as our population is diminished? Doesn't make sense. The officers are already bored and arresting innocent people regularly - I would love to see the stas of arrests to convictions - I'll bet less than 50%...plus prosecutors suckling any grant and pushing the cops to arrest arrest arrest!

NO..no more vehicles. Downsize the police force! This is getting way out of hand. The city should be directing it's resources in positive growth, not police state.

Working on the New Water Plant with its increase of Rates and projected cost overruns, going to need 2 new Garbage Collection Trucks and a Street Sweeper very soon; This "Drive Police Cars like they are Stolen" has got to Cease! How many crashed beyond repair, out of service waiting parts? Has the insurance company replaced the totaled Cruisers? H*ll, If he Force (Sheriff and City) keeps destroying them the way they have

Police rollover (brand new SUV) Long John Silvers)

T-Bone (brand new car) Elm Grove (Ohio Driver?? sure)

Curb jumping (something fresh out of BUCKWILD)

Not forgetting: Tailgating (Officers following way too close) and HIGH SPEED PERSUIT!!(Hit All the Lights and Sirens)

Maybe the Police should have their own Tow Truck and drag it to the shop crew?

WWUthinking....I completely agree. The way too close following of police vehicles to innocent citizens has got to stop. Also...the run to NRJ is very dangerous. I see Wheeling police vehicles flying down Rt. 2 transporting their mostly-innocent arrestees quite often. Way too fast. The local police have forgotten their main mission...to protect and service the citizens...not to harass, intimidate, falsly arrest/detain, or overstep their power in all of society. I respect police and their work...but Wheeling seems to be going over the edge on power trips and false arrests.

Citizens of Wheeling, WV - live free..we are not a police state.

So what exactly do you think they should do with all the officers now that there is only 1 per car, fire them? More jobs lost. That would really help our economy. Then people would be crying that there isn't enough police presence in Wheeling.

Ha haha LoriAA… When have you ever heard that in Wheeling more of a police presence is needed? I have visitors’ from other States, Counties and Cities wondering if there is a gang of killers loose or escaped from the local HiMax prison; I have to tell them "No, this is normal we don't have a HiMax". LOL This last years Thanksgiving was nice, that was the first time it wasn’t brought up and maybe they’ll return next Thanksgiving…at least we’re hoping.

LoriAA : We have some good officers, I've always said that. We have some grenade throwers and you can't tell them anything, what is needed is not really known because of past leadership and direction. Self-taught leadership and bull-headedness doesn't work; hopefully they'll listen to the New Chief and learn from the Federal work partners while watching for the Prosecutor’s Office on the quiet-side Here's what to do instruction (they'll have you do something and It'll roll right back in your lap, "Go and throw this grenade in that tent, type of thing).The New Chief is on probation from the taxpayers and he'll hopefully help keep someone out of trouble or from getting into it, or you can go to the State Police or the DEA for “should I's”; The Agent from Chicago said he has an open door policy, as well as Scott Adams.

If you couldn't tell by now I have the utmost respect for all police officers, city, state wherever. They have one of the most thankless but most dangerous jobs of anyone. Yes there are a few bad apples out there, but there are more upstanding officers then there are bad ones. Iam sure you have heard the saying "One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch"

For years; all false but I had to do the time protecting my identity, family, career or potential targets of a lying POS; it's been years since in total disgust I threw in the towel. I was investigated by the TOP and the results were made known to me outside of Abu Grabie, Iraq, a favor, and a knowledgeable assist of a complex situation before my departure was asked and I accomplished that request and action as duty to my country; there is no love of this place or of their treasonous actions against me and mine.

He said he has enough cruisers but wants extra. I watch the show Alaska state police they are one to a car and have much more to police. Warwood use to be pretty quiet but the more rental property there is the more trouble we have. And there are a few wheeling police who have that john Wayne syndrome I don't no his name but the one black cop thinks he is shaft.

I only run into Columbo and Dick Tracy-investigation team.

In all honesty, I went through a dui checkpoint a few weeks ago and the officers were very polite. Just doing their job. Seems like a waste of their time though.

Seriously, if they want more cars, why not get in on a piece of the action with the feds that take the drug dealers cars. Dont they have an Escalade from a deal? Maybe thats sheriff?

I have heard they do a lot of profiling here. Seems like they like out of staters.

An officer told me that wpd answered over 50k calls in 2012. That's a lot for a little Podunk town, as some put it. I think the pd is busier than anyone imagines.
