WVians are pretty simple. If you stand up for coal and guns and beer, you have a real shot Mr. McKinley:)

Capito has recognition in the major population areas of WV.She will win.But her seniority in the House will be lost.

McKinley would be a fool to run against Capito and I suggest this idea is just a party ploy to make it look like the fix isn't in. But in fact, the fix is in. Capito and Manchin are like brother and sister and their families control each side of the ticket. Don't forget that Capito did not endorse the Republican candidate for Governor in the southern part of the State.

How can you not like McKinley? I mean he went for it, and has managed to stay engaged in the process, and with his roots. He has done the hard work, both for his business and politically, but still holds town hall meetings via phone and in person. He comes to the people, and rarely seeks out the media. I feel lucky to have him as our Congressman, and would hate to lose him, but if he can achieve more for us in the capacity of a Senator, we should at least listen to what he has in mind. Shelly does have family roots and money but I haven't seen her in our area coming to the people. She may be a fine woman and a great politician, but who will really help the little guy, when it comes to jobs, health care and helping individuals and families with achieving not merely getting by? That is what we should be looking for, someone to offer a ladder to crawl out of the pit,..offer a path for success. I look forward to seeing both in our area. Good Luck Congressman/Congresswoman! :)

REPUBLICAN PROPAGANDA! McKinley is seizing the opportunity to attempt to distort reality, elevate his political potential and maintain high name recognition. He knows he has no chance of defeating Capito, but would like to improve his fantasy to become Governor in 2016.

New: McKinley is very nice. But has he brought new jobs to WV.New projects to the OV?Is there a major job creating project in the NP with his name on it yet? Does he have the senority to do so as Byrd and Mollohan did?

atoddh, have any of the Demorat pack brought real new jobs to WV? Other than big Byrd monuments that now sit empty and do nothing, at great cost to taxpayers, including real businesses?

The job of a politician is NOT to “bring new jobs.” That’s just wealth redistribution – pork and bribery – and it’s what got America in the financial mess it’s in now. The job of a politician is to make sure Government stays off the backs of businesses – to vote AGAINST job-killing taxes like Obamacare, and AGAINST loony leftist overregulation, and AGAINST laws that encourage frivolous lawsuits and preferences for unions, and AGAINST bigger, more expensive, more intrusive Government.

When politicians work for smaller Government, lower taxes, and less regulation, businesses will move here and grow here, and the jobs will come here all by themselves.

troll:there is no private interest in WV by anyone other than mineral and timber exploitation.Even Chesapeake has the offices in Ohio to avoid the Courts and taxes in WV. The Fed spending-which will now dry up- has filled in some holes. Now things will get really bad. btw:Highlands only worked as a government backed project.

a defense manufacturing project would really help things in the OV.

McKinley has made his money almost entirely from Government building projects(aka pork);not private.

atoddh, that’s what you get when you have 50 years of Democrit Government. Not enough West Virginians remember how to work for a living to make it worthwhile for businesses to come here. And the few who do know how to work are crushed by taxes, overregulation, frivolous lawsuits, and unions. All Democrit favorites.

It's time to stop the pork and learn how to earn our keep.

troll: the pork will go elsewhere;where the seniority is. In the case of Wheelinh tens of millions or pork went into making Downtown a theme park. The only party to profit from it was McKinley and Aderholt.Note Downtown is now mostly gone and vacant : 100 million or so later. How smart is that? Where are the jobs?

It is possible the coal interests would back McKinley in a desperate last stand. But it is free market forces(the GOP advocates) that is driving the shift to gas from coal. McKinley would have to switch parties to win;become pro union.

the best hope for the OV would be a Congressional alliance from PA,WV and Ohio for NP job creation.A regional approach.
