Honest Debate On Guns Vital

January 21, 2013

Surely liberals in the state Senate do not think Ohioans are gullible enough to accept “trust us” assurances their rights are not being violated. Buckeye State residents know better....

So you’re keeping the shotgun, eh? Figures. 72 lethal projectiles for you, ten for me. Because you won’t “freeze up.” Got it.

The recent edition of Time Magazine addresses the gun control issue form different perspectives. On major article, "Your Brain Under Fire," focuses on a firearm's instructor who is a member of the NRA and supports the right to own guns. However, he dispels many of the myths about the effectiveness of arming teachers and other civilians - and even calls into question the adequacy of firearms training of law enforcement officers. As he describes, all-too-many people literally freeze up or become completely inaccurate when faced with a real-life confrontation with an armed person. This issue goes beyond simple target practice. It is often a completely uncontrolled knee jerk reaction to a crisis situation. I recommend reading the article.

On second thought, do you think you could do any serious damage in a crowd with a home-defense 8-round pump action 12 gauge? What do you need 8 rounds in 8 seconds for? Each 00 buckshot shell contains 9 pellets. That’s more than twice as many lethal projectiles as my 30 round mag. Maybe that’s too much firepower for you. Turn it in, Wheeldog. For the kids.

The Second Amendment guarantees the right to bear a semiautomatic rifle with a high capacity magazine because forces of a tyrannical government would be bearing those arms. Wheeldog, you can keep your self-defense shotgun, though. I won’t try to take it from like you gun-grabbing libbies are trying to disarm me.

Spanky, you are hyperventilating. Relax. This is a forum for the exchange of opinions and ideas. If you cannot tolerate differing viewpoints regarding this issue perhaps you should limit yourself to Rush L. and Glen B. I believe in the right to own firearms - with reasonable regulations. I see no justification for the civilian use of high-tech military weapons, particularly ones that are designed for high volume rates of fire. If you believe you need a gun for home defense I suggest a shotgun. It's a very basic firearm and takes little training to make one adequately proficient in its use. If you keep an assault weapon in your house an invader may be after it. The bad guys generally want nothing to do with a shotgun.

uglyassmf “as for people like Timothy McVeigh,Kusinski the unibomber,Ted Bundyflesh eater,Manson, robert rudolph. All registered Republicans.”

I have it on good authority (Harry Reid’s unnamed “source”) that four of those monsters were proud registered died-in-the-wool Democrits. It’s true that Ted Bundy was a Republican, but Harry Reid’s source assures me Bundy secretly admitted he voted for Jimmy Carter.

oldman, in 2010 Republicans were the MINORITY in the House AND the Senate. Democrits held UNSTOPPABLE MAJORITIES in BOTH chambers of Congress AND held the Presidency. And you’re still whining that Republicans wouldn't compromise? You Democrits didn’t NEED Republican compromise to advance your redistributionist, anticapitalist, unconstitutional agenda.

And yet you’re STILL whining about Republicans. Maybe you just like to hear yourself whine. LOL

Liberals can't HAVE an honest debate on ANYTHING because they will LOSE!

FACT: guns prevent 1.8 MILLION violent crimes a year.

FACT: the last ban on Assault wepaons saw an INCREASE in gun crimes.

FACT: If you take out the top 5 US GUN VIOLENCE BIG CITIES, the rate of violence is similar to industrialized nations of the world.

In rural areas the crime rate is LESS than most nations of the world.

FACT: the US is 33rd in gun homicides among whites in the world.

FACT: 64 MILLION gun owners committed NO crime today.

FACT: MURDER regardless of the weapon is punishable by DEATH in most states. IF THAT does stop gun crime, WHAT POSSIBLE penalty WILL???

Execute your FAMILY?? YOUR children?? Your FUTURE CHILDREN?? COME ON, get serious, clowns.

Would someone please explain to impacted that the Democrits held unstoppable majorities in both the House AND Senate during Obama’s first two years?

And would someone please explain to impacted that Government requires compromise? And that Obama’s “they’ll have to sit in back” philosophy, or Harry Reid’s refusal to even bring Republican amendments up for debate, do not facilitate compromise? And that ALL Presidents and Senate leaders before this failed Administration worked under the same principles? And that whining about your need to compromise to govern isn’t leadership, it’s just whining?

mmm mmm mmm, waa waaa waaaaaaa

Yes, Mike, an honest debate on guns is vital, but editorials like this ensure that no such debate will occur because you print garbage like this urging the dolts who agree with you that constitutional rights are always absolute, so there's nothing to discuss. You sir are an enabler of the worse kind

Clueless, at the time the Constitution was written the only means of written speech was quill pen on parchment. So you’re entitled to as many quill pens and as much parchment as you want; no Internet. I’m sure you can exercise your right to free speech with those.

And Clueless, I’m glad you finally learned how to spell muzzle, instead of your hilarious babbling about “muzzel” loaders. Don’t say I never taught you anything. LOL

Spanky........ At the time the Constitution was written the arms of the day was the single shot muzzle loader. So every American is entitled to own as many single shot muzzle loaders as they want. I am sure you can protect life liberty and property with one.

The extreme left freedom haters need to read and understand the constitution. I for one do not believe that the extreme left freedom haters would be satisfied with simple restrictions on military-style assault weapons. I believe the extreme left freedom haters won't be happy until no law abiding citizen has the ability to defend themselves or keep government tyranny at bay.The extreme left freedom haters want to blow everything out of proportion by saying, why not allow us to have hand-held ICBM's and NASA launch pads in our yards. The extreme left freedom haters refuse to talk about the mental health aspect of the argument they only want to restrict freedoms. They do not want to talk about violence in movies and video games, they only want to restrict freedoms. The freedom haters do not want intelligent discussion about our violent society, they did not want intelligent discussion about health-care either! COMMUNIST BULLIES!

I think a nice 90mm rocket launcher and a 50 cal. machinegun in every home would be nice. While we're at it, how about a ICBM silo in everyone's side yard. They're all "arms" aren't they and we have the right to have them. It's what the 2nd Amendment says, and we're all sure that that's what the Founding Fathers intended. Any arbitrary limitation on what "arms" we are allowed to bear would erode those "inalienable" rights they granted us. Isn't that the logical extention to this nonsensical piece of tripe that the Eds. printed?
