It is impossible for some tormented souls (like the previous poster) to add anything to this column without resorting to ad hominem remarks. Consider the source. Tin hat nut jobs.

I wish Obama would have invoked an oratory that spoke to ideals and aspirations rather than to partisan squabbles. The speech should have been written by a poet.

Extremists are the minority. Bring on the progressive agenda. Resolve the debt problem the progressive way not the austerity that is crippling Europe and the tea party. Never thought the tea party and Europe would have so much in common! And for those who care so much about the First Lady and her children, all I can say is grow up!

Extremists Boozerboi and WVhoopla are truly in the minority.

Obama job approval below 50%, American oppose the gun control proposals 2:1, etc.

No budget in 4 years, more spending than any man in the history of the world: only sub grade school educated person could say his first administration was anything but a COMPLETE ABYSMAL FAILURE.

People voted for Santa Claus Obama, not Barack Obama, President of the Un-united City States of Amerika.

if the wars are over, why does the US still have troops being killed over seas? 77% higher Govt. debt in his 1st. four yrs. Sure, it's not All Obama's fault. But he is the "Leader" and he is supposed to lead. So yes, it is mostly his fault. over $7,000,000,000,000 of added Debt. Gee with all this added money spend shouldn't the country be booming. Oh yea, it is...just ask some "smart" guy who thinks the current unemployment and inflation rates means things are great...one nation under God we are no longer..just like the housing market We are One Nation Under Water..God will not help us, since we have turned our backside on Him...

@ Hoopie,

Exactly what is the "Progressive" way to solve the debt problem?? And don't give me the make the "rich" pay their fair share talking point. They already do and there isn't enough money there to pay our deficit for one year let alone our accumulated $16.5 Trillion.

I'm looking forward to the plan!

Resolving the debt problem “the progressive way” must not include a Federal Budget or increasing the number of Americans with jobs. I suspect it involves eliminating the debt ceiling and buying more printing presses for the Treasury, but I’d be interested to hear hoopie’s mysterious “progressive” plan because anything would be better than whatever the plan was during Barry Obankrupter’s last term. LOL

You must always remember, whatever right wing extremists accuse others of, they in fact, are always trying to misdirect and cover up that it is they. who are the guilty party.

That about covers it all.

Yes, tyranny lives in Virginia. Yes, arm the militia and round up the Virginia republicans.

"Virginia Democrats are raising*****after Republicans unexpectedly rammed a controversial redistricting bill through the state Senate on Monday, capitalizing on the absence of a Democratic lawmaker and civil rights leader who was in Washington for President Barack Obama's second inauguration." (pathetic)

The Virginia Senate is currently split evenly between Democrats and Republicans, each occupying 20 seats in the legislative body. Democratic State Sen. Harry Marsh's absence paved the way for passage of the previously unannounced legislation by a count of 20 votes to 19."

When you are a dying party, have no ideas, no majority support, use a holiday, to ram through announced legislation to give your party a false majority. Then whine that that the President is tyrannical.

And they wonder why they are a minority? And will always be.

And whoever heard of teapublicans working on a holiday? They don't work M-F as it is. Their leader in the House spends most of his time, tanning and playing golf, too busy to do his job. Worst House of Reps, EVER.

2014 is coming. The nightmare of American Politics will be over. Teapublicans will line up for jobs with Koch Brothers, Rush Limbaaaa and FauxNuze.

A little closer to home, in West Virginia a Federal Court overturned the illegal redistricting scheme rammed through by Democrit Governor Tomblin, Democrit Secretary of State Tennant, Democrit Senate President Kessler, and Democrit House Speaker Thompson. Apparently their little gerrymandering scam didn’t pass muster with the Constitution.

And here’s how you post a source, Gooseplagiarizer.

Gooseplagiarizer “arm the militia and round up the Virginia republicans”

Would you be rounding up Republicans at gunpoint because they broke the law or because you disagree with their politics?

This from the Party that wants to take your guns away. Expect more of the same, and worse, after Barry Ogungrabber succeeds in legislating away your Second Amendment right to bear arms.

It is rather sad that most when confronted with the truth, will turn thy head. The truth is the USA finanical system was set to the path to fail shortly after JFK was murdered. LBJ changed the finanical direction JFK had set in motion. LBJ and then Nixion destroyed the Gold backed greenback. but with the US Dollar being the Worlds Reserve Currentcy, the US inflation (devaluation) could be exported aroundthe world. Other nations kept buying the Us debt Bonds as our govt. kept making them worth less. This ponzi has worked for the US Govt. to finance it's way for yrs. No president since JFK has tried to actually get the Govt. finanical house in order. Some have slowed the demise, some have increased the speed of the coming crash.Obama in the 1st term has endorsed the Feds rapid expansion of the debt to unmanagable levels. As the nations of the world realize they are being taken for a ride in being paid back with worth less US money backed by nothing the crash will pick up steam..and just w

Katie MvHugh:

"Despite the president’s sharply ideological tone – perhaps to fire up his base for his second term – the crowd gathered on the National Mall failed to catch the emotional fever pitch. It remains to be seen what, if any, role the strong smell of the marijuana smoke in one part of the Mall played on the crowd’s demeanor."

Perhaps the most amazing thing to me is that Obama can make people not see what is happening in front of them. I believe loss of life among the US military should be only for the most strict reasoning and yet people with whom I thought I shared that view pay no attention to the spending of US lives in the Middle East by Obama, like pocket change. If Bush did not have a valid reason for us to go into Iraq (and I don't) then how do we justify the bombing campaign in Libya, the forcing from office the government of Egypt (under threat of Libya style bombing) and why are we arming one group in Syria when the UN has asked us to stop? You have to bend your values and ideals into pretzels to justify Obama's use of the military, but I am sure people I thought were liberals can do just that. Just a few weeks ago he announced a new two brigade unit to intervene in 30 African countries. Not a peep from my peers. Obama proposes military action in over 30 countries and not a peep.

Did anyone notice that obama just mentioned MLK very briefly in his speech? You would think, that being the first black president, taking the oathe on MLK day he would have made mention of what Dr. King's "Dream" was.

But, with obama, it's all about obama.
