"...and the Senate's move Thursday averted a first-ever government default that had loomed as early as mid-February."

Where has this reporter been for the past several years? These politicians have been kicking the debt can down the road for quite a while now. Every time one of these deadlines approach, we here the politicians and their media hacks warning about Armageddon.

Just base upon that statement alone, this hack "journalist" loses all credibility!

A responsible vote by Joe Manchin. Good on ya!

Much of the time he votes for legislation that is in the best interest of his home state of WV. Then there are times it appears he is being pulled in by the Dark Side (Reid, Pelosi, et al)there in D.C.

Manchin is turning out the be an enigma.

Shame on these politicians that keep voting to heap mountains of debt upon our children and subsequent generation of Americans. And this all so they don't have to make tough, responsible, big-boy (and gal) decisions to live within their means.

INSTEAD OF BEING APPLAUDED, THEY SHOULD BE PROSECUTED!!!!!

Gee, how many NR profiles does boxerboy have? Within seconds of posting both Wraith and I received 3 disagrees, and two for a comment merely correcting my grammar from a previous comment.

Keep showin' the love.....

It's the Debt Stupid !!! It appears that the majority really are Stupid. Like my dog,who gets to eat for "free" He doesn't care where his food comes from as long as he gets his. He doean't care if the other dogs down the street gets any or not, as long as he gets his. We are now in a country where most people have gone to the dogs. The majority doesn't care what the congress or the president does, as long as they keep giving them "Free' stuff. The majority doesn't care where it comes from. The only problem is, when congress and the president run out of "Free" stuff to pass along to this dim witted majority, it's going to become a dog eat dog country...make no mistake..at some point the money pit will run dry..then the majority will turn on congress and the president and anyone who might have something they want

I think in a dead pool boozrboi and Greeceman would be tied for "most likely to go postal and become an NR front page story".

One day I felt good about Joe but I think that was due to a memory lapse. Joe is a professional politician, and nothing he does or says is for any other reason than the next election and his continued association with that gang of perverts and criminals known as the U.S. Congress. Be wary and trust nothing.

Obama gave Joe permission to cast a contrary (and ultimately meaningless) vote, just to give gullible West Virginians the impression that Mojo is anything but a sockpuppet for this corrupt administration.

Vivian i have only one NR profile, but I do consistently Disagree with you as apparently do others, profiled or unprofiled.

Metaphor too subtle?

Notice that our California poster replied at what would be 4:43AM CA time. Can we please dispense with the fictional location?? Too much evidence supports an OV residence (outby the NRJ).

Principle error of Conservatives here is they think Austerity is the way forward. Wrong: you've got to spend money to make money. Growth thru incentive is how the deficit gets clipped. You can't expect the tree to bear fruit if you keep cutting-off all the buds before they flower.

Highland, your speculation presumes a conspiracy.

Seriously doubt that Jokin Joe has as much political capital as you presume. He is just addicted to limelight, a lot like his minister of culture in WV.

ToiletLog, the murders are always unstable elements of the Conservative bloc. The idea that you can shift the ground and identify the liberal thinkers with mass murder is an absurd fantasy. Liberal thinkers are more concerned with peaceful coexistence than they are with an unhealthy attraction to phallic guns.

Conservative rightwing wackjobs do all the damage.

boxer..your statement on You have to spend money to make money, would be correct, except for one thing...the Govt. does not produce anything to increase the value of the money..they just borrow into infinity and leave our great grand sons and grand daughters with the bills

Mass murderers have much in common with gun show enthusiasts: they are afraid of something; they mistrust their fellow man; they hoard weapons; they embrace insurrection; they see the world as a battleground; they reject the idea of change; they prepare for doom, theirs and others.

Mass Murderers have much in common with Conservative Teapublicans.

All politics of course...

If Joe really cared about the mounting debt, the moral decay and decline of America, high gasoline prices, illegal immigration & entitlements, joblessness & economy, then he'd get the he11 out of the democratic party.

You can't have it both ways. Obama and the democrats are intentionally and methodically destroying America.

Toilet, don't forget: the government owns all the money. What you think you own is only an illusion.

The liberal use of stimulus spending is what keeps the boat afloat at the moment. We all know this. And the use of stimulus spending is not a new concept, it has a lot of precedent.

The pushback by Republicans has less to do with the deficit than it has to do with their need to find something -- anything -- that they can use as a wedge for relevance. They did this during Clinton's second term and immediately abandoned the strategy as soon as Bush was elected. It's a game of smoke and mirrors.
