Mike, two weeks ago, you told us there was nothing anyone could do, so we should do nothing and think about it. How in the world did you get this job? On second thought, please don't answer that question.

The President's proposal included elements other than an assault weapon ban. But I guess it wasn't "meaningful" or "thoughtful" enough to be considered "firm". LOL

impact, It's already against the "law" to possess a firearm on school grounds! So will creating another law solve the problem? Fools all around!!
FIREARM IN A SCHOOL ZONE: 18 USC § 922(q)(2)(A). Punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment.

what is a school zone ? the property the school sets on ? The land between the caution and flashing lights ? Is there some circle arround the school zone ? There are GUN shops in some states between the school zone markers. I knowm the deal has turned into an investment bonanza. Who ever thought you could sell three $750 Ars for $7200. Oboma told the truth when he said the economy will pick up.

Loss of life is what this boils down to. All know you can marry a 17 HP garden tractor engine to a differential and planetary gear system to operate a car at highway speeds. Still the government allows industry to furnish the buyer with another 500 or so extra HP incase they want to drive 2 or 3 times the top posted speed limits. Ever visit a person who's healthy looking body had shut down due to what was in the food they ate ? The chemicals and lab liquor. Need to ban things that do more killing than a gun one person might missues.

walks, good question! I would guess that the Connecticut shooter was "in the zone!"
So we don't even enforce the old laws and want to make new ones! Politicians acting like they are "really" doing something..............

It’s a Marathon, not a sprint. It seems the NRA has the stamina to out-run the pro-gun control movement. They are persistent, un-yielding and gaining influence. It will be interesting to see how the pro-gun control voice responds and how the influence between the two groups changes as the debate persists.
The pro-gun rights voice is rapidly gaining influence while the pro-gun control voice has tapered in recent weeks. Momentum is shifting and the gun control debate is becoming a platform benefiting gun rights advocates.
The pro–gun control group is fragmented whereas the pro-gun rights voice is united and strong. Of the top influencers on the pro-gun rights side, the majority of the most prominent voices are from the NRA.
The pro-gun control voice is split between Obama and several gun control advocacy groups which dilutes the message.

"DETROIT (WJBK) - There was a deadly shooting Friday outside of Martin Luther King, Junior High School on Detroit's east side.
Police sources say two armed males tried to rob a coach leaving the school. The coach, who has a concealed pistol license, fired shots killing one of the individuals and critically wounding the other.
Sources also tell us the two males previously attended the school. One was expelled. Fox 2 has learned the 70 year old coach for the girl's basketball team was walking two students to their cars at the time of the attempted robbery. When one pulled a gun, the coach fired back, shooting both teens."
That's how you reduce mass murders!!

Our national treasury of heroes and money, depleted by one of the most stupidest wars in our history.
Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. Trillions spent on a credit card. Thousands of American heroes still dying and suffering.
RIP Chris Kyle
Thanks President Obama for ending that stupidity.

Speaking of nut jobs with a a gun:
Greecemon, Obama spent more in the one year than the total cost of Iraq and Afghanistan in 11+ years combined.
Obama spent more money than any man in the history of the world.
Every single Democratic leader from Bill and Hillary Clinton to both presidential candidates Kerry and Gore to Hairy Weed and Nancy Piglosi claimed that Iraq had weapons of Mass Destruction.
They got the same briefings that Geroge W. got.
Unlike Egypt and Libya, Bush got a vote of Congress FIRST.
With ALL of the Wars running at maximum and and 5 years of the Bush tax cuts, the budget deficit in 2007 was $162 BILLION, less than the MONTH of Feb. 2012 under NOBAMA and the Dow hit an all time high of 14,167 with <5% unemployment.
THOSE were the good old days.
Go flap your frozen beak somewhere else.

The standoff between law enforcement and an Alabama man who held a boy in a bunker for seven days ended with the suspect dead and the 5-year-old safely rescued.

The crisis began Jan. 29 when authorities say Dykes boarded a school bus and demanded that he take two boys between six and eight years old. The bus driver -- Charles Albert Poland, Jr. -- is hailed as a hero for putting himself between Dykes and the children. His valor cost him his life, as Dykes allegedly shot Poland several times before taking the 5-year-old boy from the bus.

Here is no shocker:
He was a loner who allegedly lost contact with an adult daughter years ago, according to people who lived near him. The sounds of conservative talk radio filled his home and fed his anti-government attitudes, locals said.

FWIW: Outside the military and law enforcement agencies, there is virtually no need or excuse for possessing a military-type assault weapon. It is certainly not a hunting weapon - unless you plan to hunt people in large numbers. It is toy of paranoia and warped Rambo self image. I respect and actively support the right to own firearms and have been an active hunter most of my life. Most individuals quit playing war while still in grade school, but some seem like they can't quite make it to adulthood.

In other news:
Consumers have been spending more on gasoline than they have in nearly three decades.
With pump prices at their highest level on record for this time of year, the stage is set for an even greater climb in gasoline prices and expenditures than in 2012. Retail gasoline prices have surged 17 cents in a week to top $3.50 a gallon on average, posting the highest prices on record for the beginning of February. Obama took part in a discussion with Minneapolis officials before telling police officers and others that an increase in gun violence nationwide, including the Connecticut school massacre in December, made it vital to address the issue now.
"No law or set of laws can keep our children completely safe," Obama said in calling for "basic, commonsense steps to reduce gun violence."

Gooseman, Dykes shot the bus driver with a HANDGUN. So this incident somehow supports your rabid frenzy to ban so-called “assault rifles” how?
Liberal logic. LOL

Wheeldog “FWIW: Outside the military and law enforcement agencies, there is virtually no need or excuse for possessing a military-type assault weapon. It is certainly not a hunting weapon - unless you plan to hunt people in large numbers.”
Wheeldog, the Second Amendment wasn’t made a part of our Bill of Rights to guarantee citizens’ right to hunt – animals OR people. So your FWIW isn’t W crap.
By the way, I never got an answer from you about why you need that shotgun you advocate for self-defense. With an 8-round pump-action shotgun you can fire 72 lethal projectiles faster than I can fire 30 rounds from my assault rifle. Do you expect a 72-man home invasion? Clearly a shotgun is FAR more firepower than you need for hunting, OR self defense. Turn it in, or be a hypocrite.

"Opponents led by the influential National Rifle Association, oppose any ban on weapons, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has indicated that such a provision faced an uphill struggle.
Reid told ABC on Sunday that he backed expanding background checks to private gun sales at shows and other steps, but he refused to endorse a ban on what are called assault-style rifles modeled after military weapons."
Even Harry Reid thinks Obama is full of crap! lol
