Found the WV Record-the articles could keep you busy all day. The best is the WV inmate who has filed charges of terrorism against Kim Kardasian, her bf, family, etc. Said she is head of Al-Quida. Great story.

Have you ever seen more police, prosecutors, and attorneys in such a small and diminishing population? This tells much about our community...and it's not about crime.

Same old story....B&O..vultures waiting to pick at every bit of income any business might get. B&O on inventory???? Organized crime is all that is...then there's fire codes, safety codes, zoning, parking, ... the city of Wheeling is a black hole of business....not because of business, but because of the BS red tape vultures and parasites who prey on any good idea.

HercX, you LOCALS are the friggen problem! YOKELS have run Wheeling into the SH***Ole it is.

ONLY Outside influences like the Gas Drilling companies can change ANYTHING in that dead {bleep}ing hole.

You should be kissing their a&&es instead of complaining.

26003: 20K in 2020? Any takers???

@HercX007. Before you start complaining about people not joining in or doing anything, find out how many people on here live in wheeling (I don't), and ask how many uses the resources that are in Wheeling. It takes residents of Wheeling on boards and committees to do something, not out of towners. Try getting rid of McKenzie, what has he done to help Wheeling besides tear every building down? It is a shame this is happening.

WVUthinking-sounds a bit like prison advice lol What kind of idiot disagrees with your post with the wvrecord website Country Buck-doesnt sound like Campbell was looking to find something bad-but he sure got shook down.

wvuthinking-I have noticed that you often have information and share the truth-as much as you can. If too much is said here, it seems to be shut down or deleted. I am hearing more people who want to speak out about the truth of what is happening in wheeling, not anonymously, but the NR will not cover certain things. Have any suggestions?

wvuthinking-I did not see that lawsuit was heard (campbell vs whg PD) or settled? I am aware that there are others that have been filed for violations of constitutional rights that have not been heard. I am not in favor of the award of 55K-I am in favor of those you mentioning learning the law. They will only attempt to learn the law(and/or follow it) if it costs the city money. Campbell suffered no injury or medical expenses as a result of this violation. Many have been injured as a result (loss of employment, medical, etc). I agree with OVGuy on this-show up and shut up.

The first thing that needs to be done is drop the B&O on inventory (discourages retail businesses from keeping large stocks of inventory). I say let them keep the shelves full and make up the difference on the B&O sales tax.

I believe turning storefront into apartments is foolish, but in the short run if they can take advantage of out of town allowances, I can't blame the owners for wanting to.

Industry is never going to come back because the labor difference between here and overseas is greater than the shipping cost to get their products here.

To get mercantile back the city is going to have to bite the bullet and shift the tax burden off of retail in a meaningful way to make the City competitive with the County and across the River.

Any chance they want my opinions?

I love how folks complain from behind the keyboard of their computers but aren't willing to show up and help. You don't know how the meetings are run or will be run until you go and see for yourself personally. I also love how people complain but refuse to do anything about what they think is wrong. If you have such an issue with how things are being run or not run, why don't you seek a public office, join a comittee or local organization/volunteer group? Otherwise, you have no reason to gripe. Stay at home? Do nothing? Stop complaining. If you aren't willing to contribute to your community, you have nothing to complain about. And for those of you that have moved entirely out of the area, why are you putting in your two cents? You chose to leave. You have no reason to offer complaints either. If you were so interested and have something to say, move back here and help make changes, otherwise, you have no reason to complain either.

OhValleyGuy-I can understand your skeptism because of how things are currently, but I am willing to give Connelly and the others a chance.

Here is a comprehensive plan:

Demographics: old, aging population on fix income.

Future: No new blood, no new ideas, crumbling infrastructure, corrupt officials.

Gas Drilling: Will mostly bypass Wheeling in favor of St. Clairsville, OH and PA in general. Plus drilling is happening in the rural areas , not in the cities.

Forecast: MASS decrease in population due to death and moving. 20K by 2020?

Action: Continue to do nothing and watch the town DIE off, bulldoze as needed.

"..the committee is looking for members who know the city and its government well - but who are passionate about Wheeling as a whole and not looking to push a specific project or agenda, said Connelly."

In other words, they're looking for people who are willing to show up at meetings, keep their mouths shut and allow business as usual in the City of Wheeling to prevail...Yeah, 'cause that's worked really well so far as evidenced by the fact that there are nearly as many parking lots and empty storfronts as there are occupied buildings downtown..
