If he converted to Islam before the trial, he would be a FREE MAN today!
Biased government would not touch THAT ONE with a 10 foot pair of scissors.

Look, there's lots of comments about the harsh punishment for snipping whiskers but I think the sly old goat had more earthly goals in mind. The 'goal' for him was not 'cutting whiskers' so much as 'cutting meat' so to speak. He had his eye on 'doing' the stupid, very stupid wives of his Amish neighbors. And he did just that. He got off easy. Way too easy. Worse, his 'appeal' will likely reduce his sentence to maybe 24 months since he's old, frail and just a poor misguided 'man of God'.
Only difference between Pops and Jesse Jackson Junior is the old guy didn't get a 40 grand Rolex watch out of his evil ways.

Slightly off the subject; But- Religion has killed more people than all the wars in history.

Its a proper sentence for what he did, and what he did was terrorize people. Cults always seem to go from oppression to violence and often to murder and perhaps this derailed that train before Amish people had to die to satisfy this guy's religious goals. Not only was this guy involved in terrorizing people who did not follow his stricter than norma rules, there is some indication that he had threatened some public officials for also not deferring to him. And I hope that the DOC makes him shave his crab catcher while he is jail, not only is it necessary to sanitary reasons but also to show him that he must abide by the rules too.

I think U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach has his sights trained on a career path at the taxpayer's expense. This case is a notch in the handle.
Old goat Burgoyne made a healthy living for himself by faming the flames of religious intolerance.
An appeals court will likely reduce the sentence to time served.

THE JUDGE: '15 years you old goat!'
MULLET: 'you gotta be pulling my beard Judge!'

I wish he would have received "life", but I guess at his age 15 years will teach a lesson. I do earnestly hope they shave his beard the first day and make him keep it off for his entire "visit" to the correctional system.

The Hare Krishna (Marshall County) had extremist views and one of their not-so-following followers ended up buried under a stream and had his house burnt to the ground.
I don’t care if you live in a cave, creationism or the evolutionary bus was in your neighborhood sometime in the last 10,000 years "We’re NOT Neanderthals, Sorry not on my watch"!

He knowingly and premeditatedly physically assaulted another person with a deadly weapon (Scissors he’s Amish not electric clippers). The victim(s) didn't know they were going to get a shave and a haircut, most likely believed they were going to die.
YES the sentence is fair and just, he should thank the court for its leniency, I know I would....But then again I wouldn't have assaulted anyone in the first place.
