Most perceive the Pope as a spiritual leader. He is. But the Church is a vast global financial/charitable operation as well.Billions in revenue and assets. The Pope is the "CEO" of this "empire".It is a huge, high pressure job; 24/7.A younger man - as Pope- may be in the best interests of the Church going forward. The Pope was very thoughtful in doing what he did on this issue/policy change. He will be viewed as a "progressive" in this regard.

Pope Benedict has taken NO decisive actions to punish any high ranking church official for enabling, empowering, and covering up sex crimes against innocent kids. Many should have been fired. Just to name a few.. -Cardinal Law, who was given a plush job in the Vatican -Bishop Finn, who is a convicted criminal is still the bishop of the KC-St Joe diocese -Cardinal Mahony, horrific cover up of sex crimes per thousands of recently released LA archdiocese secret documents

We hope there is someone within the college of cardinals who could be a pope with integrity, who will start to take immediate actions to stop these crimes against humanity. Judy Jones, SNAP, 636-433-2511. snapjudy@gmail****, Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.

The title of this article is a bit overly dramatic, don't you think? This is not the end of the world. Someone has the sense to retire and someone will be elected to replace him. That is all it is about.

Axelrod suggested Obama apply for the job. Obama immediately dismissed that idea, saying Pope would be a demotion. Barry has his sights on being the Pope’s boss.

Good riddance. The catholics should be dancing in the streets. Benedict was a protector of child molesting priests and a suppressor of women, especially nuns who were brave enough to challenge the antiquated teachings of the church. Reports are that he was even a member of the Hitler Youth. Not the kind of guy I'd want heading up my faith!

The Pope should be commended for recognizing his limitations and doing what is best for his organization. He is a "company man."
