One place to start would be to elect judges that aren't crazy in their sentencing policies. The elimination of the Recht-Mazzone contest as to who can impose the longest sentences is an example of where we can begin.

Lawmakers don't care. They don't have to walk into those crowded short staffed buildings. They won't care until the news headlines have a prison uprising reported. Or a staff member who was hurt or killed. Lawmakers just keep voting for their raises and forget about the men and women who face these dangers 24/7 365.
