The OC Library is a living, vibrant library that provides a lot of services to the community beyond the books. The number of organizations that meet there are growing every year, there are classes conducted for students, adult history classes, driver improvement classes, and it provides internet access to people who don't have that. Not everyone does, you know. If the BOE decides to stop supporting the library, do we get $500K back? Of course not, and many of us knew that the library stipends are part of the operating levy. We voted for it, I don't think they could legally stop it until the next levy vote, could they? A community without a library is a bad community, and kids don't have access to everything online at night or on the weekends, as its dangerous. Ironically, other social services decided to locate homeless services on both sides of the library, causing some concern about the kids being there. But that was not the library's choice. Library good, ignorance bad!

All I ask is that you look ahead to when public libraries will be needed as schools minimalize and adapt the services they will offer in the future. Libraries will be a hub of long distance learning, and students will stay at home or return to a neighborhood school model. Wait until the economoy collapses and there is no gasoline to pour into the school bus that takes little Johnny on a sixty mile round trip every day. Just something to ponder.

I agree, if the support of the libraries were a part of the levy then it should continue to go to the library system. If not return it to the taxpayers!

Real simple. If the BOE begins to withhold the $500k from the library (which, apparently, and unknown to taxpayers, is part of the levy), then the BOE should return that $500k to taxpayers.

I am so disgusted with the haphazard and greedy manner with which our so-called public servants handle our money.

When you serve the public, you serve the public trust. What this means is, you should do nothing with public money that you wouldn't do with your own money, times two.

Libraries are not a thing of the past.

How many folks in West Virginia can access the internet today?

Our public officials, for example former governor Joe Manchin and his cronies, never used the computer to communicate.

They did not want to leave a eloctronic trail. The feds still found out about the boondoggle of the 23,000 dollar modems.

We are very cutting edge in West Virginia, first in everything.

Aren't all libraries simply a thing of the past?

What can be done in a library that can't be done online?

I can access dozens of major university libraries all over the world and never leave my chair

And I can stream video content from millions of sources

The only benefit I've seen is to the homeless that come in to get warm and sleep

And 1.3 MILLION a year!!!

Either your are paying employees 50 dollars an hour or you have ALOT of waste!!

The Great State of West Virginia, thanks to our wild and wonderful leaders, is NUMBER ONE in the following:

WAR ON COAL WAR ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION WAR ON EDUCATION WAR ON GUNS WAR ON OBAMA WAR ON MENTAL HEALTH WAR ON NUTRITION WAR ON WELL BEING WAR ON INCORRECT SPELLING

I could go on and on but, I am just a simple card carrying LIBERAL.

I have a LIBRARY CARD. ;)

It will be simple to have a vote as to what the levy for the BOE should be if they refuse to pay their share to the library. If now they need to cut the levy and give the break to the taxpayer. Where would I sign a petition to have this done for the people.

No matter who pays for it- WE TAXPAYERS always get stuck with the bill. The school system is greedy, always was, always will be. Too many subjects, teachers, admin. personnel etc. About time to settle down and educate our kids with information they can use in the world.

Oh, that's right, Governor Tomblin and all the fancy "leaders" of West Virginia are spending thousands, maybe even hundreds, of dollars trying to fix WV's educational system.

YIKES! This story may put the manufactured crisis called the "WAR ON COAL" to the back burner for a while.

ONWARD--- to West Virginia's new "WAR ON BOOKS".

Money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money.

Governor Tomblin, Senator Manchin and Congressman McKinley --- COME AND GET IT!

I would bet that 90% of the voters in Ohio County had no idea that school money went to the library system.
