Why waste time on this? "He said he has not been involved in any incidents that inspired him to introduce the bill". Maybe it's a practice run to see how things work?

WHILE "ROME" BURNS! Legislation to protect our referees and umpires takes legislative priority. In the meanwhile: -WV high school students have some of the lowest test scores in the country. -WV has one of the highest teen birth rates in the nation. -WV has the one of the lowest high school graduation rates in the nation. -WV in the past 5 years has allowed child poverty to increase 29%. -WV has the highest prevalence of smoking & childhood tobacco use. -WV has the highest rate of preventable hospitalization. -WV has the highest rate of diabetes and obesity in the nation. -And much more................ SHOULD WE AT THE MOMENT CARE LESS ABOUT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF REFEREES?

There are law on the books already of hitting anyone. You do not need a law just for refs. Maybe, you should just arrest the players when they fight.

What really is needed is a fine for politicans wasting goverment time, money and ethics. The fine alone would put the State of WV with a surplus every year.

Ferro is just being "proactive" about something he has experience with. How much easier would "the case" in Steubenville be if laws which many thought to be unneccesary were in place? Granted time could be used for better things, but evidently it's not been used wisely over the past 80+ "democratic" run years. What if the official is a minority? Hate crime also? LOL

As an umpire, I once had to eject a coach for pushing me in a little league baseball game. Police charged him with assault and disorderly conduct because he wouldn't leave the field and was using the F bomb on front of the children. It was aweful

I agree there is some pretty discusting actions that do take place on the courts and ball fields. Enforce the laws that now exist......BTW, what are they actually going to do, If a person can rape a two year old baby and get out of jail with a $5,000 payment, then very little will be done here reguardless of laws.
