Bridge Repair Begins Today

Damaged cable will keep span closed for the next month

WHEELING — The West Virginia Division of Highways expects work to begin today to replace a steel cable on the Wheeling Suspension Bridge that snapped over the weekend, according to District 6 Bridge......

there will come a time when the suspension bridge can support nothing more than pedestrians and bikes. It cannot stand forever, but isn't it interesting that it has stood for so long with old technology when other bridges on modern highways are caput in a decade.

An original cable from 1849.. that sounds like a well overbuilt cable to me...

And why not a mishap??? There are many cables coiled around each other--This cable is one of many...
